Like every year, the "Pink October" campaign is a key time to support women and raise awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection and regular medical check-ups.
The first breast cancer awareness campaign took place in 1985. In 1992, Evelyn H. Lauder, in collaboration with Self Magazine, created "Ruban Rose", an association dedicated to breast cancer information and early detection. They distributed pink ribbons in Estée Lauder stores in New York.
In France, in 1994, Estée Lauder and Marie-Claire magazine co-founded the "Le cancer du sein, parlons-en! This association supports research, notably through the annual Pink Ribbon Award, and informs and raises awareness of breast cancer.
Today, the pink ribbon is the global symbol of the fight against breast cancer, and the month of October has become the biggest awareness-raising period in the world.
As a healthcare professional, you play an essential role in this initiative. In direct contact with many potentially affected patients, it is your responsibility to raise their awareness of this crucial issue.
Do not hesitate to remind them of the importance of early detection and regular medical follow-up. You can also encourage your patients, regardless of their age, to practice a breast self-examination as a preventive gesture. This can help detect any abnormalities at an early stage, thus facilitating treatment.
To help your patients cope better with the side-effects of treatment, we offer specific protocols for oncology supportive care.
• Radiation induced dermatitis
• Nausea and vomiting in oncology
